Simpsons Golf Shop now has copies of Carnoustie Golf Club's 175th Anniversary book on sale.
The 160 page book is a fabulous compendium of stories and snippets tracing the heritage of Carnoustie and telling the unique story behind how around 300 golfers from our town went out and made the golf industry truly global. The book is full of old golf pics and as well as telling the story of the Simpsons (the original official golf pro shop) it traces the journey of many other great people who went out to the USA and elsewhere to develop competitive golf. When they went to the USA at the dawn of the 20th century they helped mark the birth of American golf.
In fact 15 of the 35 Charter members of the PGA of America, 15 were Scottish including George Fotheringham from the Carnoustie Golf Club - he chaired their first Annual General meeting.
The book is available now in the shop and online
Carnoustie Golf Club held the 175th Anniversary Book launch and War Memorial Re-Dedication Ceremony in the newly-refurbished Clubhouse on Sunday, July 2, 2017.
